Halmoni is a mother-daughter duo hand-packing our authentic Korean family kimchi recipe every week in Tacoma, Washington. We officially launched in June of last year, but before that, we started out making small batches for our friends and family. The word got around, so we started making it for their friends, and then for their friends. Pretty soon, we had a choice: keep it as a hobby or turn this into something real. So here we are! The name Halmoni means “grandmother” in Korean, and it’s a tribute to my mom (who became a halmoni four years ago) and her kimchi recipe my brother and I grew u eating, as well as to all the halmonis who have shared their love through food. As a first-generation immigrant, my mom’s kimchi has always been my connection to my Korean heritage and the story of how our family got here. Now, it’s something we’ll pass down to our children—because food isn’t just food, it’s memory, tradition, and love. You could say this is our legacy in the making.
