Rye berries are the edible form of rye grain, also known as fall rye, winter rye, and simply: rye.

Rye is a cereal grain that’s not as widely milled and eaten as wheat, or as malted and brewed or distilled as barley. Nevertheless, rye (often in combination with wheat) can be milled and used to make delicious and unique breads, crackers, cookies, porridge, and more. The berries have a nutty, earthy flavor, and can also be cooked whole like brown rice, spelt, or farro.
