Spice up your routine grocery shopping with items from the farmer's market and exciting new fruits and veggies through our weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly subscriptions.
100% CUSTOMIZABLE: We fill boxes Thursday afternoon and notify you via email. Then customize from our market of 200+ items that include organic avocados, citrus, low-pasteurized milk & cheeses, and more. Or do nothing for a fun surprise and "farmer's pick". You'll have until Sunday 12 PM to customize.
FLEXIBLE SUBSCRIPTIONS: Pick a weekly, every other week, or monthly delivery schedule. Skip any delivery and set a vacation if you'll be out satisfying your wanderlust, when life gets busy, or you just need a break. Each week the exact price varies, but defaulted items range from $43-$47 for the total box.
BALANCING LOCAL & VARIETY: We start by directly coordinating with #localforreal farmers so you Eat Local First. We then expand our reach with trusted, local distributors to additional organic and ethical farms to increase the variety. Local will always be first, but this box enjoys the wonders of food whether it's Californian blood oranges in the winter, Argentian Abate Fetel pears in the spring, or Snoqualmie Valley heirloom tomatoes in the summer. No matter where it's from, you'll get a source and story for each item.
SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING: We only use reusable, compostable, recyclable packaging and prioritize in that order. We encourage (and most use) our reusable insulated totes bags as China is no longer accepting recycling. Each tote is lined with a new compostable liner with convenient handles (also helps keeps greens crisp as it's breathable). We do a $5 refundable deposit for each tote we deliver, but if it's just a swap out then no second charge. You can also set out your own cooler (just make note of that in your driver notes).
While the selection of available local produce varies each week, for an individual adult this would be enough for 3-4 home cooked meals (2-3 for a couple) and 3-4 on-the-go snacks. This size is recommended for individuals that cook at least one meal per day at home, the couple that mostly eats homemade meals, or families that go to the grocery store but still want support local farmers and get the most nutritious food for their kids!
We only source from organic farms. However, certification requires farmers to become part-time bean counters--and not the edible kind. So we don't snub our noses at those without the certification because it may not be feasible for some of the small farms we work with. Instead, we get to know the farmer and their practices. We've found that often their care for their plants and land go beyond what is required for certification. None of our farmers use non-organic pesticides and we have even caught a few singing to their plants ;) We source from farms ranging from 1/2 acres to 1,200-acres. The larger the farm, the more we rely on the certification process.
At PCH, our goal is to take it a step further than organic and source from farms employing natural farming practices. A lot of the fruits and veggies grown today have 10-30% less nutrient density than in decades past which is largerly attributed to soil depletion. While it's a long history, the organics movement was originally intended to address the soil issues we are dealing with today. There is no simple solution as the agriculture industry is confronted with the difficult balance of using practices that retain soil nutrient levels while meeting the needs of a growing population--and paying the bills to farm another year. Our goal is to continue to source more and more from natural farmers.
We source with the intent that all local items will be local. Sometimes, unforeseen circumstances arise and the farm is unable to sell the harvest because pests or weather intervene or when managing their offerings with customers, the demand for a particular item is too high and there is simply not enough to go around.
Should this happen with an item you have requested, we'll do our best to fulfill the order from another local farm. In the event we can't find a local farm, we'll fulfill the order from a farm further away because we are equally committed to reliability as we are to sourcing as local as possible. If none of these solutions are available, we'll promptly refund you.
